Daily Cravings

Could this photo make you want bananas anymore? I know what you’re thinking now, “yum.”

And that’s exactly what I was thinking. After seeing this picture I’ve been scouring blogs for new banana recipes. What has resulted is a folder full of new cravings. This Cold & Creamy Banana Pudding from Bakerella is simple yet if we had to guess is a sweet summer satisfaction.

Let’s not forget all good things also come in the form of a cupcake.

We’ve had these Chocolate Banana Cupcakes bookmarked for a few weeks, they’ve officially moved up on the “to bake” list.

These heavenly cuppies were spotted on Maison Cupcake and we didn’t need to know anything but their name: Sticky Banoffee Cheesecake Cupcakes. Oh, my.

So as not to take away from how divine these truly sound here is the cupcakes’ original description:

“Sticky because they’re sticky (obvious really), Banoffee because they’re banana sponge bases and icing with a toffee sauce and Cheesecake because I made the icing with cream cheese – only with a twist.”

You will most certainly be seeing these in my kitchen soon! Happy cravings!

Cupcakes Cooling Off

Cupcakes have swept the nation and cupcake lovers are eating it up, but has the larger fad of cupcakes fizzled out?

Our love for cupcakes is everlasting; however, Yahoo! is saying that cupcakes have “lost their cool.” Recently, New York attributed these tiny treats for boosting the economy and just weeks later they’re being dubbed possible outcasts?

“I was all smiles to find cupcakes at my own birthday this year, but the pretty treats did seem more functional–no cutting, less mess–than cool. How much more mileage do you think bakeries will get from these individually-sized treats?” Sara Fuss of Yahoo!’s Shine said.

Looks like pretty mixed opinions. We think cupcakes are still on the up-hill journey, but we too realize the 15 minutes of cupcake fame won’t last forever.

Other trends to walk the plank in the article are lava cakes, truffle salt, chipotle chile (specifically in mayo) along with a few other interesting choices. In fact, out of their seven fading fads we’d have to say the communal table is the one we’d most like to see go.

Nashville Goes to War

29 Jul

Don’t get your panties in a wad, Nashville is obviously not going to war. However, one Nashville cupcakery, The Painted Cupcake, is hoping to battle it out in Food Network’s Cupcake Wars.

We’ve already fallen in love with their cupcakes, and this video just made us love them even more. Tracey Davenport, owner of the bakery, managed to open the shop in just three weeks! That’s right, she signed the lease to a picturesque location in historic Nashville and received rave reviews from the moment doors opened for business, all in three weeks.

If you only watched the beginning of their video then you missed the best part. At the end, Tracy informs us The Painted Cupcake plans snag the $10,000 prize from Cupcake Wars and give all of it to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

There’s only one thing we love more than a good dessert and that’s some philanthropic action. Personally, we think seeing The Painted Cupcake take it all at Cupcake Wars would be thrilling.
